SpringFest

Read Time: ( words)

Our fantastic VCAL students are working together once again in partnership with Ballarat SpringFest. Their aim is to help raise money for Community Organisations.

The online raffle is back – bigger and better than ever! It’s an integral cog in the SpringFest wheel that helps the Rotary Club of Ballarat raise and distribute money. The raffle will be drawn – Tuesday 30th November LIVE on our social media.

We have three major prizes up for grabs: a total prize pool of $7500.

As always, we would appreciate your support in this venture. Tickets are just $5 each and can be purchased online: Please visit our raffle page here to view prizes and purchase a ticket.

We would also love it if you could spread the word about our raffle fundraising efforts by:

  • Sharing the raffle link with family and friends
  • Sharing the social media posts on Facebook or Instagram (follow us on Facebook and Instagram)
  • Telling your work colleagues about the great prizes up for grabs either via email, over the desk or on one of those pesky zoom meetings
  • Talking to your neighbours about the raffle while you have a “socially distanced” catch up over the fence (or pop a note in their letter box)

Every dollar raised from this raffle is donated back into the Ballarat community. Our 2021 beneficiaries are: Ballarat Chinese Dragon Boat Club – Miners Rest Primary School – Bungaree Primary School – Mount Egerton Primary School – Phoenix P-12 Community College.

As always, we appreciate your ongoing support.

Best of luck!

Mini Muso’s & Beginners Band Concert

Read Time: ( words)

What a different year!

In the past, our two young bands usually travel to Stawell Town Hall for our Mega Music Day. This is in conjunction with Stawell Secondary College,  Horsham College and Nhill College, normally held at the end of Term 2.

Not this year obviously, but we still wanted to give our two bands the opportunity to perform for each other in a ‘concert’ atmosphere.

Caleb Daly – Class of 2015

Medical Receptionist

As I look back on High School my fondest memories was the time I spent with friends – with a lot of memories being created in the schoolyard. The talented staff at Phoenix helped me in my later years of study and I remember those moments fondly. I believe Phoenix prepared me in many different ways – by helping me realise the importance of self-motivation and how your own drive is so important in helping you succeed.

After graduating from Phoenix College, I went straight to University where I completed my first degree, a Bachelor’s of Biomedical Science, which I am very proud of. I then took a gap year, allowing me to travel solo in the United States. I spent 2 months at a Summer Camp helping kids enjoy their Summer. The time I spent in the United States allowed me to visit many iconic places, this resulted me in really pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I am now in my second year of my Doctor of Medicine while working as a Medical Receptionist.

My one piece of advice would be never let others define the limits of your own potential. I thought that because I went to a public school that the odds were against me chasing the dream of becoming a doctor. I remember settling for medical research in my final years of high school. With a little bit of hard work and a tonne of perseverance, I’m two years away from that dream.
