Our Phoenix P-12 Community College newsletters are an important form of communication for our school community.

Each newsletter contains a great deal of information about what is happening in and around the College
including upcoming events and celebration of student success.

15th-25th Year 11 Step-Up Program (2 weeks)
A preparatory 2-week program for students entering Year 12 VCE & VCAL in 2022.
17th VCE Exams Conclude
22nd-26th Year 10 Exams
24th Year 12 Valedictory Assembly and Dinner 
We have rescheduled the Valedictory assembly and dinner to Wednesday 24th November depending on restrictions. Further details will be provided soon.
29th Nov – 2nd Dec Year 10 Step-Up Week
A preparatory week for students entering Year 11 in 2022.
29th Nov – 3rd Dec Years 7-9 Assessment Week
30th Presentation Evening
7th Orientation Day (Prep & Year 7)
Orientation is an important part of children’s transition to school. It is an event that orientate children and families to the structure and timetable of their new school in preparation for the following year. Alternative timetable for current Years 7-9 students to accommodate for orientation.
8th Grade 6 Graduation
13th-16th Activity Week
Students can participate in a range of activities throughout the week.
15th Primary Step-Up Program
15th Semester Reports (available via COMPASS)
17th End of Term 4 (Student Free Day)

Student free days will be confirmed throughout the school year.

Jump Rope for Heart

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term in memory of Mr Lawlor!

Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for over 36 years. It’s a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs.

Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $104 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.
It’s important you register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started.

Students will be skipping throughout the term in PE lessons and in breaks throughout the week, during this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

Our fundraising goal is to reach $3,000, and we have already raised $974. That’s amazing. Let’s keep it up.

Mindfulness is a way of training yourself to focus your attention in a certain way to calm your mind. It can help you in your day-to-day life, work, relationships and overall wellbeing.

Here are some simple ways you can start practicing mindfulness.

One-minute breathing exercise – Sit with your back straight but relaxed. For the next minute, focus your entire attention on your breathing in and out. How air passes in and out of your nostrils and how your abdomen rises and goes down with each breath. If thoughts start crowding in, gently let them go and refocus on your breathing.

Check in with yourself – Bring yourself into the present moment by asking yourself, ‘What is going on with me at the moment?’ You can label your thoughts and feelings — for example, ‘that’s an anxious feeling’ — and let them go. You may start to feel more of an observer instead of someone reacting to thoughts and feelings.

Eat mindfully – When you’re having a meal, focus on your eating. Don’t read or watch TV at the same time. Pay attention to how the food looks, smells and tastes. You may find you enjoy your food more, and stop eating when you’re full instead of automatically finishing what’s on your plate.

‘Senior Info Night’

Ballarat and District Aboriginal Co-operative (BADAC) Youth are holding a ‘Senior Info Night’ for Indigenous Youth aged between 12 – 18 years old.

If you would like to attend the night will be held on Wednesday 10th November from 4:30pm until 6:00pm at 115 Beverin Street, Sebastopol.

This simple gesture will have helped so many in need, and by sharing your story we hope you ignite and inspire those reading to show the same compassion to others that you have. Lotus Family Clinic – Pfizer and AstraZeneca Covid-19 Vaccines Available

We would like to advise you that the Lotus Family Clinic have both Pfizer and AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines available.

The clinic is running vaccination clinics from Monday – Friday and appointments for third doses are also available. If you need an appointment, please call the clinic on 5309 3159 and one of the friendly receptionists will assist you with your enquiry.

Headspace are hosting a FREE online webinar to help school leavers be aware of the possible impacts of, and strategies to deal with, this period of transition.

The session will be held on Thursday 18th November from 3:00pm to 4:00pm – register here.

Akala Menhennet – Class of 2006

Registered Nurse

Akala graduated in 2006, and had no idea of what she wanted to do after Year 12, until she had to select subjects for her final year with them having to be pre- requisites for either Nursing or Teaching. She ended up taking a course for Nursing.

During her Year 12 exams Akala got glandular fever, resulting in her not scoring very well. Although after speaking to a friend they told her about University of Ballarat’s FAST program, to which she completed it in 6 months, then was able to start studying a Bachelor of Nursing.

She now works full-time as a Registered Nurse at St John of God Healthcare, recently surpassing 10 years of employment!

One piece of advice is to just do the best you can! As long as you are having a go you are already winning.
